8 Tips to Make Your Business More Eco-Friendly

  • Written by NewsServices.com

Going green is not only great for the environment, but it's also great for business. Making your business eco-friendly can help you save money, attract customers, and improve your bottom line. Here are eight tips to get you started:

  1. Conduct a waste audit

The first step to reducing your business's environmental impact is to find out what kind of waste you're producing. Conducting a waste audit will help you identify areas where you can reduce, reuse, and recycle.

  1. Install water coolers

Encouraging employees to drink more water is good for their health and good for the environment. Water coolers remove the need for single-use plastic bottles, replacing them instead with fully recyclable and 100% BPA-free spring water bottles, which saves money and reduces waste.

  1. Swap paper towels for hand dryers

Ditch the paper towels in favour of energy-efficient hand dryers. This will reduce your paper towel usage and save you money on buying and disposing of them. Plus, it'll cut down on the amount of electricity your business uses.

  1. Use recycled paper products

Once you've reduced your paper usage as much as possible, switch to recycled paper products when you do need to use paper - this includes things like toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and office paper. Outside of paper products, be sure to also recycle items like aluminium cans, glass bottles, plastic containers, printer cartridges and electronics.

  1. Encourage employees to carpool or take public transportation

If possible, set up a carpool system or subsidise public transportation costs for employees - this will reduce traffic congestion and air pollution from vehicle emissions.

  1. Implement a composting program

Many businesses generate food waste that can be composted instead of going into the trash. This includes coffee grounds, fruit and vegetable scraps, eggshells, and more. Composting reduces methane emissions from landfills while creating a nutrient-rich soil amendment for gardening or agriculture.

  1. Give eco-friendly gifts

When giving corporate gifts or promotional items, choose items that are eco-friendly and sustainable. For example, instead of giving away plastic water bottles at a trade show, give away reusable metal water bottles with your company logo on them. Or instead of giving disposable pens made from non-renewable materials, give away recycled pens made from recycled plastic bottles.

  1. Use natural cleaning products

Choose environmentally friendly cleaning products made from natural ingredients instead of harsh chemicals, or better yet, make your own cleaning products using simple ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, salt, lemon juice, olive oil and essential oils.

Ready to get started?

It goes without saying that making your business eco-friendlier is good for the environment and good for business. Follow these tips to get started on reducing your ecological footprint while saving money attracting customers and improving your bottom line
