The Hamptons interior decor style is a popular interior design style that originated from the United States East Coast. This style has been around for quite a while and remains one of the most effective ways to achieve an elegant but relaxed coastal-living vibe for your home. In this guide, we’ll explore what this decor style entails and provide some tips for decorating your home like one of those beautiful holiday homes in the Hamptons.

What is the Hamptons style of interior decor?

The Hamptons style of interior decor mirrors the aesthetics of the luxurious beach houses in the coastal towns on the East Coast of the United States, collectively known as the Hamptons. This style is characterised by a sophisticated but heavily laid-back style. Hampton’s style combines different intentionally selected elements like architectural style, colour, and furniture styles that communicate a sense of comfort and rich coastal charm.

Elements of Hamptons Style Interiors

Hamptons Style Colors

The colour palette is one of the most important elements of a Hamptons-style aesthetic. Keeping with the coastal-inspired vibe of this decor style, a neutral base of crisp white or soft beige tones is often used for the walls, ceilings and doors. The main furniture should also come in this colour, but the style may also incorporate dark-painted timbers, brown rattan and silver accents to warm the base colour. Other colour options in the Hamptons palette include warm blue and celadon greens.

Furniture and Accessories

The elements of a Hamptons interior space are tied together by oversized furniture pieces that are both luxurious and elegant. Here are some tips to consider in choosing furniture pieces for this type of decor style:

  • Colours for upholstered or painted furniture pieces are typically a mix of cool whites, navy, black or natural patina.
  • Choose original timber, mahogany, oak, or reclaimed wood for wooden furniture.
  • Place a cane or woven rattan chair alongside oversized armchairs with cotton and linen slipcovers.
  • Maintain a light and airy texture for all furniture pieces.
  • Use large upholstered bedheads for the bedroom and cover the windows with billowy sheers.
  • The typical Hamptons flooring in a Hamptons-style home consists of pale timbers with grey undertones. If you prefer to choose carpets in your bedroom, then large wall-to-wall carpets with natural tones are best.

Hamptons Style Lighting

This decor style is heavily reliant on natural lighting. This is why Hamptons style architecture often emphasises generously sized bay windows and an open design that lets in as much natural light as possible.  In addition to the

The decor style also uses a lot of artificial lighting, such as wall scones and pendant lighting, with elegant designs to frame the entryways, kitchen and dining area. You may add table lamps made from glass, glassy ceramics or nickel to the side tables and sideboards.
