Finding the Best Spot for Your Spider Plant

  • Written by Scene Magazine

Spider plants are a popular choice for homes and offices alike. But where exactly do these easy-going plants thrive? Let’s find out.

Light is Key

Spider plants are champions of adaptability, tolerating a range of light conditions. However, for optimal growth, bright, indirect light is ideal. Think a spot near a north or east-facing window. South-facing windows can get too harsh, potentially scorching the leaves. West-facing windows might work in the morning hours, but be mindful of afternoon sun.

Placement Options

  • Hanging Baskets: Let those spiderettes drape freely! Hanging baskets showcase the cascading nature of the plant and add a touch of whimsy to any room.
  • Bookshelves and High Shelves: Spider plants look stunning displayed on shelves, their foliage gracefully trailing over the edges. Just be sure the shelf can handle the weight of a mature plant.
  • Tabletops and Desks: Bring a touch of life to your workspace! Place your spider plant on a desk or table where it can receive sufficient indirect light. Opt for a stylish pot to complement your décor.
  • Bathrooms: Spider plants love humidity, making them perfect for bathrooms (as long as they get some indirect sunlight). The steam from showers will keep them happy and thriving.

Bonus Tip: Spider plants are known for their spiderettes, those baby plantlets that grow on long runners. If your plant gets too crowded in its pot, you can propagate the spiderettes to create new plants!

Add Beauty and Clean Air to Your Space

While spider plants are adaptable, avoid placing them in constant direct sunlight or very low light conditions. With a little planning, you can find the perfect spot in your home for your spider plant to flourish
