Behind the scenes of Australia's Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory

  • Written by Wanda White

Australia’s very own Willy Wonka-esque Chocolate Factory, Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory, is giving a glimpse of what life is like inside the factory by opening its doors to the ‘make your own organic chocolate freckle room’ every weekend, from this Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors can roll up their sleeves to make their own chocolate freckles in the ‘freckle-making room, along with making rocky roads and other delights – see photos.

Guests can enjoy as much chocolate as they want and sample various treats, including the new dark chocolate-coated chilli macadamias. Although it might sound a little unusual, chilli and dark chocolate are one of the longest pairings and work together in perfect harmony. One is rich, decadent and crave-worthy while the other adds a touch of heat.

“Freckle making is always fun as it is something both children and parents can enjoy together,” says General Manager Rhiannon Druce.

As well as being Australia’s largest organic confectionary maker, Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory holds two of the Guinness World Records – for the world's longest piece of licorice at 612m, and the world's longest piece of rocky road, measuring 62.2m.

The factory tours hope to also start up again soon where visitors will learn about the historic Junee Flour Mill, built in 1935, as well as how Green Grove Organics came to be, watch the production line, and see the huge, sweet-smelling chocolate making cauldrons bubbling away, witness chocolate coating of all organic products and sample the delicious sweet treats.

Factory tours were halted last year during the pandemic but hope to be happening again in the near future.

The factory has got loads of gorgeous pictures on its Instagram and here are some mouth-watering videos of them pouring the chocolate and making chocolate pizza wheels etc.
