Scone is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New South Wales, Australia. Popularly known as the “Horse Capital of Australia”. This charming rural town is famous for its rich equine heritage. Scone also has several beautiful destinations to explore and a wealth of activities for visitors to enjoy. Visit the Scone Visitor Information and Horse Centre 

The best way to kickstart a visit to the Horse Capital of Australia is to learn about the town’s rich equine heritage. As the name suggests, the Scone Visitor Information and Horse Center is the place to get all the information about the region, its history, top tourist sites and all it has to offer. The Horse Center has an impressive display of equine memorabilia, and you can also take a tour to learn all about the process of breeding, training and racing horses.  

Spend a Relaxing Afternoon at the Elizabeth Park 

Elizabeth Park is a beautiful park located in the centre of Scone. The park has lush lawns, shady trees and beautiful flower beds - a perfect destination to spend a relaxing afternoon with your family. The park is open all year round and hosts various events, concerts and festivals. 

An extra attraction in this location is the famous Scone Mare and Foal bronze sculpture. This is one of the most photographed locations in Scone as most tourists try to get a picture with the sculpture while at the park. 

Visit the Lake Glenbawn State Park

The Lake Glenbawn State Park is a caravaner’s paradise. Located in the Upper Hunter Region, the park is built around a picturesque lake surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and lush forest. If you’re a fan of water activities like fishing, kayaking or paddleboarding, this park is perfect for you. There are camping areas nearby if you’re looking to spend the weekend exploring the lake’s tranquil waters, exploring the trails and picnic areas.

Hike the Burning Mountain Walk Trail 

If you’re up for some serious hiking adventure, the Burning Mountain Walk is one of the best attractions to explore. The trail takes you through a fascinating landscape characterised by smouldering rocks and vents. You get to see a  5,500-year-old natural underground fire caused by a slow-burning coal seam. In addition to this fascinating natural phenomenon, this trail also offers stunning countryside views and other beautiful attractions. 

Go Wine Tasting 

Scone has numerous vineyards and wineries with some of the best wines you’ll find in Australia. Some of the most popular ones include the Tinonee Vineyard Estate, James Estate, and Magpie Distilling. In these locations, you get to sample some of the most unique flavours and aromas of carefully crafted vintage wines.
